Nuno felted scarf, merino wool on silk, printed with eucalyptus [SC25]

Luxurious and wonderfully warm scarf of merino wool  nunofelted onto silk, which gives a wonderfully smooth side next to the neck. Crafted lovingly by hand

The merino wool fibres were laid onto the silk in a chevron layout, and embellished with long white tencel fibres. The emergent scarf was felted by hand, by rolling on bubble wrap. The wool fibres shrank  in the felting process, but the celluloid tercel fibres did not, creating an attractive effect whereby the tencel fibres 'wrinkled' into the wool felt.

The felted scarf was then hand printed on both sides with Eucalpytus Nicholli from my garden, by simmering for almost three hours in a dye bath of eucalyptus, vinegar, water and iron in my trusty fish kettle.
