Silk Twill Scarf/Shawl Dyed with Cochineal and Printed with Cotinus Leaves [SC291]

Luxurious silk twill scarf/shawl, created wholly with sustainable natural fibres, local plants and natural dyes. In this case, the shawl was printed by steaming, with continue [smokebush] leaves, and the natural dye cochineal. [SC291].

Fabulously versatile and elegant, you can wear this striking scarf/shawl in a variety of ways.. during the day with casual or work clothes, or as a shawl in the evening for that special night out. 

In creating this scarf/shawl, the silk twill was soaked in alum solution, to accentuate the pigments' vibrance, and then printed with cotinus leaves, by steaming for 70 minutes in my trusty aluminium fish kettle to release and fix the leaf pigments. It was then dyed with cochineal extract which gives the glorious pink background  

The prints and background are  light- and wash-fast.  

Due to the individual nature of the hand crafted process by which these unique scarves are made, the precise details of the scarf design and colour tone may vary slightly from this photograph.

Care instructions: hand wash in warm water [30C] with soap only. DO NOT use detergents.
