Luxurious Silk Twill 10 silk scarf/shawl, created wholly with sustainable natural fibres, local plants and natural dyes. In this case, the shawl was dyed with weld and printed by steaming, with horse chestnut, nandino, acer and wisteria leaves, with fennel seedheads and a logwood and tara tannin 'carrier' dye blanket [SC292].
Fabulously versatile and elegant, you can wear this wonderfully soft shawl in a variety of ways.. during the day with casual clothes, or as a shawl in the evening for that special night out.
In creating this scarf/shawl, the silk twill was soaked in alum solution, to accentuate and fix the pigments' vibrance, dyed with weld and dipped in iron sulphate solution, to highlight the leaf structure and influence the background colour. After placing the leaves, the shawl was bundled up tightly round a copper pipe with a carrier blanket of logwood dye and tara tannin, which transferred the colour to the background.
It was then steamed in my trusty aluminium fish kettle for 70 minutes to release and fix the leaf pigments and dyes. The prints and background are light- and wash-fast.
Due to the individual nature of the hand crafted process by which these unique scarves are made, the precise details of the scarf design and colour tone may vary slightly from this photograph.
Approx 185cm x 45cm.
Packaged in an elegant, ecofriendly By Maggie Naturally presentation box made from recycled materials.
